Exciting
I found out today that my grandparents from Pennsylvania will be visiting sometime in the next five months. An exact date hasn't been picked because they are both retired and stay on the road most of the time. My mom's entire family lives in Pennsylvania, but because I've been in school and teaching for years now, I haven't been able to visit them in quite some time. So of course, I'm extremely excited for them to be coming down for a little bit!! When I was little, my family and I would travel to Pennsylvania or the my family and grandparents would meet somewhere halfway in between (like Dollywood), so even with all the distance we have stayed extremely close throughout the years. My grandma is a retired teacher, so I know I can always count on her for advice for making it through those tough days. My grandfather is hilarious and constant laughter is pretty much a given when spending time with him. Knowing that I get to spend some time with them in the near future is wonderful and I can't wait!!!

How great to be expecting a visit from your grandparents. You should interview your grandmother about her teaching experiences and record it. It will be interesting to see what has and hasn't changed in our profession.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to know you have family "far away" too. I don't have immediate grandparents who live that far away. It's actually my great-grandparents who live in Michigan. Well, I guess you can say, did live. My great-grandmother the last to go left us about seven years now. Mom, Dad, sister, brother, and me all load up with my grandmother (she doesn't drive) and take the trip to Michigan every three years. Just so happens I missed the last two trips! Terrible news, I know. Well, we are definitely going this December. I have already been searching for airplane tickets and my son wants to see snow. So, maybe we will luck up and get some there. All of my great-grandmother's children (aunts and uncles of my father) still live there. That is why we still visit. I love best how we all stay up late at night playing cards, drinking hot cocoa, and talking about the good ole' times. Can't wait to go. Hope you enjoy your visit too!
ReplyDeleteDr. Tunks,
ReplyDeleteWe often talk about what her twenty-something years of teaching were like and it really helps me see that while a lot has changed, the reason teachers go to work everyday has continued to stay the same. I get so frustrated when I have to follow procedures and use programs that I may not like or feel are best for my students, but this is not something new for teachers and my grandmother had the same problems thirty years ago. We have always just stuck it out because we are there to help the students and we will continue to do so for the sake of the students.
Rebecca,
I really hope your trip works out and that your son gets to see snow!! I know I will enjoy them coming down and can't wait!
